Biography

Sweden’s favourite melodic rock band Roulette was formed 1985 in Sundsvall, Sweden. All the guys had been in previous bands with Fellbrink in Overload, Lundgren and Nesslin in Red Skies, and the Nelin brothers in The Kaza. The five young guys found each other, “clicked” and started to rehearse songs and play live at rock clubs and festivals around Sweden. They became one of the most popular bands in their hometown and had a couple of hits on the local radio stations.

In 1986 they took part in the competition POP-86 where they went to the final at Hard Rock Café, Stockholm. In the jury was Tommy Nilsson of Easy Action and Kee Marcello of Europe. The year after they signed a record deal with TAB Records and released their first single “Hearts Keep On Burning” with Tommy Nilsson on backing vocals. The second single was released in 1988 called “Fool For Your Love” and a video was made to promote the single. In this period Roulette performed on all the ”hottest” TV-shows in Sweden like “Top Gear”, “Night Life” and “Metropol” where they shared stage with giants like Status Quo among others.

In 1990, influenced by their prospective label, they changed their name to Cherry Red and won a record deal with CBS. They started to record their first full length album at Stockholm Recording with producer Per Blom, but the album became just a singel called “Only The Strong” and was released on CBS subsidiary label, Cupol Records. The record deal fell apart and it took until 2008 before they released their first CD “Better Late Than Never”, which was a compilation with all previously released singles and unreleased songs. The CD immediately sold out and was released again a few years later in a revised version.

The ”new chapter” started in 2015 when they recorded and released a single called “Secret Room”, produced by Chris Rehn at Boxroom Studios. With much recognition for ”Secret Room” they recorded a couple of more singles which all ended up on a full length album called ”Now!”. The album was released in 2019 and was voted as one of the best melodic rock albums of the year by several web magazines and web sites around the world…

Rocknytt – no.1 (Sweden’s biggest web magazine) Den Melodiösa bloggen – no.2 The Maloik Rock blog – no.2 AORland – no.2 (Spain’s biggest web magazine) Burrn Magazine Japan – no.3 …just to name a few.

During 2022 they did a successful headline tour in Spain and also played several festivals i.e All Star Fest (Belgium) and Sabaton Open Air (Sweden) where they received high rewards for their performances (9/10 by Stargazed and 4/5 by Rocknytt). They shared the stage with well known bands like FM, Demon, Hammerfall, Nestor, Praying Mantis and Sabaton to name a few.

To follow up their critically acclaimed album ”Now!” several digital singles was released over the years, one of them called “Ready For Friday Night” which was voted one of the best singles of the year in 2022 by Rocknytt.net – no.1 and PlanetAOR.com – no.7. All the singles ended up on a ”collection” EP in 2024, including a brand new sngle called ”Love’s The Drug” which is still in some charts in Sweden. The EP ”From Now Until Today” became a success and immidiately hit the Swedish charts at no.8 for both physically album and vinyl.

In the spring of 2025 we will see the release of their highly anticipated new album ”GO!” containing 10 brand new songs. Keeping their trademark of strong melodies, great guitar riffs, pounding rythm section and one of the best vocal performances known in Sweden, they have developed their songwriting and connected to their roots of Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams and Van Halen.

They are known for extraordinary live performances and will by demand do another tour in Spain during October 2025 to follow up their most appriciated tour a few years earlier. There will also be several club and festival shows with a very special anniversary show in their hometown of Sundsvall during the summer.

Since the band celebrates their 40th anniversary in 2025 there will be more releases to come that surely will please their fans. Keep your eyes open.
